REVIEW+PHOTOS: Lee Fields | “Generations of Soul” | Mack Sennett Studios | 4/2/15

E&J Brandy is America’s most awarded brandy. Celebrating their 40the anniversary, they’ve embarked on a “Generations of Soul” campaign featuring the musical talents of Raphael Saadiq, BJ the Chicago Kid and Lee Fields. We were able to attend their private concert at Mack Sennett Studios on 4/2/15 and Lee Fields gave a stellar and intimate performance.

There aren’t many singers nowadays who have the kind of vocal power and emotion as Lee Fields. When he opened his set with just a piano accompaniment, he showed the audience that he doesn’t need a full, funk band to put on an amazing performance.

After a couple songs with the piano accompaniment, he brought The Expressions (his backing band) onstage to bring the funk … and the funk was brought. His performance oozed soul, and set the perfect mood for the rest of the night.

It’s always a pleasure to watch Lee Fields perform. E&J Brandy definitely curated their artist’s with great care, and selected very wisely. Lee Fields embodies soul.
