REVIEW+PHOTOS: Mod Sun | The Roxy | 3/28/15
Late last year, I got to see a rapper named Mod Sun “light up” a stage at the Sunset Music Festival. A few weeks later, I read in a trade magazine that Rostrum Records (home to artists like Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller) had signed the artist to their label. It made total sense.

The only non-rapper on Mod Sun’s “Look Up Tour” was Hollywood’s own R&B/Neo-Soul crooner Mat Musto p/k/a Blackbear. The mood was immediately set when the house lights dimmed to an almost completely pitch black.

Rapping the east coast on the Mod Sun’s “Look Up Tour” was Brooklyn, New York rapper Dillon Cooper. His flow was on point and I was particularly impressed with the quality of his rhymes.

Hailing from the Twin Cities, Morgan Parriott p/k/a Karizma had one of the opening slots for Mod Sun’s Look Up Tour. He performed his set with DJ Gnash supporting him. The first time I heard of Martin Sexton, it was in college circa 1998. A member of my vocal group had arranged an acappella cover of his song “Love Keep Us Together.” It was a beautiful arrangement, and I loved singing the background tenor 2 part every time our music director called it.
