NEW MUSIC: Snoop Dogg’s “Peaches N Cream” (Lyric Video)

Snoop Dogg’s forthcoming album, “Bush”, is executive produced by Pharrell. Pharell even stated on Big Boy’s Neighborhood that Snoop’s album better than his own. If that isn’t high praise, we don’t know what is. Well, the first single from Snoop’s next album is out. Featuring Charlie Wilson on the hook, below is the lyric video for “Peaches N Cream”.

KILLER COVER: TORI AMOS COVERING THE CURE

Tori Amos covering “Picture of You”. I would totally buy a cover album by Tori Amos. I want a studio recording of this song. So bad. Spine tingles.

FAVORITE INSTAGRAM POST OF THE WEEK

From fellow concert photograph @GetTiny‘s Instagram feed, a #TBT to when Action Bronson at a chicken wing during a performance in Brooklyn. So awesome. HAHAHA.

THE BEST ALS ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE VIDEO

It seems that whatever the Foo Fighters do, they do it really well. Even ALS ice bucket challenge videos. This was seriously awesome. Funny for a good cause. Can’t wait for their new album to come out this year.

OKAY, OKAY, OLKAY … THIS MADE ME “HAPPY”

I was over Pharrell’s “Happy” the 239,478 time I heard in on the radio … but this video made me smile.

SONG OF THE WEEK

With the civil unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, Lauryn Hill posted a demo track she recorded about a year ago. This is music that makes a difference. The fact that she uses the melody of the Sound Of Music’s “My Favorite Things”. This track is genius. You should take a listen. Major props to Lauryn Hill.

MUSIC NEWS/STUFF YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT

Shelby Lynne Signs with Rounder Records. Congrats, Shelby! If you’re a fan, check out some of the pics I snapped at her KCRW Country In The City KCRW Country In The City concert.

Pitchfork magazine published a list of “The 100 Best Albums of the Decade So Far”. It’s not a bad list. Of the 100, I have 24 of the album. The one’s that I was really happy to see on their list were Killer Mike “R.A.P. Music”, Majical Clouz “Impersonator”, Japandroids “Celebration Rock”, The War On Drugs’ “Lost In The Dream”. These albums are so good, I got them all on vinyl.

Louis Vuitton to Invest $80 Million in K-Pop Culture Factory YG Entertainment. Does this mean I need to force myself to like K-Pop? I’m Korean … but, what?!?!?!

THE MUSIC VAULT

A 14 year old, Stevie Wonder, performing “Fingertips”. So dope.

Everybody loves Pharrell, myself included. My passion for his music all started with his work in N.E.R.D. “In Search Of…”, released in 2001, was on of the dopest albums I had heard in a long while. I even brushed off my yellow, N.E.R.D. mesh cap from back in the day to wear the day of the festival. I dunno, maybe I thought I could get Pharrell’s attention or something. Total fanboy move. I’m 37. SMDH. LOL.

His set week one was RIDICULOUS. I anticipated it to be a spectacle, but I had no idea of all of the star power that he would be bringing up to the stage. I work for Doggy Style Records, and even I didn’t know that Snoop would be showing up! Now, that’s how you keep a secret! Nelly, Snoop, Busta Rhymes, Puff Daddy and Gwen Stefani, all joined Pharrell on stage to perform the songs he produced, cowrote or simply collaborated on. Simply ridiculous. Oh how I wish that I could have been able to stay in the photo pit for his entire set…

If there was an award to be given out for best show that Saturday, I think Pharrell would have taken the belt. To make the set even better for me, personally, I think I took my favorite shot of the festival (even though I still have to carefully look through my shots from Sunday) during his set, which is the featured pic at the top. In front of tens of thousands of fans, I think I was able to capture the look of serenity on the face of an artist who is truly at home, on stage, performing for his fans.

Coachella 2014 | April 11 – 13

Coachella-2014-Lineup-Poster-wide

This year, I was lucky enough to get approved for a media/photo pass for the first weekend of Coachella. The photo pass allows me to take pictures from the photo pit of each stage, and being armed with an incredible lens, I’ve taken some pretty amazing pictures so far, and I can’t wait to sift through them all and post what I’ve been able to capture.

There were a few acts that I wish could have snapped pictures for (Muse, Queens of the Stone Age, Beck and Arcade Fire), but being a “newby” in the world of concert photography, I wasn’t selected to by artist management to have the privilege of taking pictures. Hopefully, the pics I post of the bands I saw here will help change their opinion of me for the future.

Each entry will contain a little bulb of my overall thoughts of what I was able to see, with a Instagram video post that I posted (my Instagram account is @Methodman13 … you may as well go there now while you’re waiting for the post to go up) and a photo slideshow.  I hope you enjoy the moments I captured as much as I enjoyed shooting it. Click on the name of the artist you want to check out to see the blog entry I put up.

UPDATE: 5/9/14: It was a long, glorious, music-filled weekend of music. I think I may have ruined all of the future music festivals I attend because there really is nothing like being in the photo pit, even for only the first 3 songs, trying to capture “moments” of musicians practicing their craft and giving the audience all that they have. I will forever be grateful for the opportunity. Thank you, Goldenvoice. Thank you, Snoop. You made this music dweeb very, very happy.
